verall- A well crafted mix of fruit, dried herbs and spice, as found in traditional barbera. American oak was used, which I feel was the right choice and compliments the dried herbal and rustic characteristics of barbera perfectly. It is a properly structured wine with balanced acid and tannins. Perhaps it’s a little clumsy out of the gate but with a little air this wine lines up well. You should decanter it for at least 25 to 35 minutes to get the most out of it. This wine has the uncommon quality of having both a full front palette and end palette, while dipping down in the mid palette to reveal a soft center. A pleasant change from the structure profile of more commonly produced reds. Bring on the food, this wine wows at the dinner table. One of the best North Bay barbaras tasted to date. It’s a very hard grape to make properly outside of Italy but may be a perfect grape for the east side of Glen Ellen’s valley floor and foothills. Produced from Old Vines, 600-800 feet in elevation in the Mayacamas foothills, American oak barrels and stainless steel fermentation tanks using pump overs. -Robert O’Maoilriain CSW, Sept 2009
