Deerfield Chardonnay “Los Chamizal” Vineyard, Sonoma Valley 2009 $35

Bold and brazen; a seamless powerhouse of clean, creamy Chardonnay and vibrant, direct fruit; it is a white wine for everyone.  Minimal oak, integrated and comfortable acids, a plush mouthfeel and lengthy finish; a wine with the texture and connectivity of a Premier Cru Meursault and the green apple and raw honey flavors of the Sonoma-Carneros region nearby.  It powers ahead and dazzles confidently with flavors of whole green apple, warm honey, Bosc pear, fresh mint, honeydew melon, kiwi, cantaloupe, apricot, banana and walnut.

Serving: Serve in large Burgundy glasses without decanting; drink now and serve with or without food.

Food recommendations:  Oysters Rockefeller, Cilantro Cucumber Salad, Prosciutto Wrapped Honeydew Melon, Chicken Pesto Penne, Chicken Saag, Parmesan Artichoke Salad, Almond Crusted Monkfish on a Bed of Sautéed Spinach and Dalmades/Dolma.

Consumer Type: Universal, all wine drinkers especially red wine drinkers will enjoy this wine.  Some Chardonnay drinkers looking for very oaky, buttery Chardonnays may not accept this wine as a substitute for the style of Chardonnay they are used to but may enjoy it for completely different reasons.
