BACKGROUND

I began my interest in wine at the age of 7 after being allowed to taste Chateau Margaux one Thanksgiving and being awestruck by it.  At age 18 I began my career in wine as the General Manager of a Wine Shop near the French Market in New Orleans, Louisiana.   At 19 I received my Sommelier Certificate from the Court of Master Sommeliers.  At 22 I moved on to restaurants and became a National Restaurant Director, COO and National Beverage Director on Andrew Jaeger Restaurant Group.  In 2005 as I was opening a new Restaurant in San Francisco, Hurricane Katrina demolished New Orleans and with it all of my possessions. In San Francisco I paired rustic French Wines and Creole Cuisine.  After three years in San Francisco, I moved to Wine Country to pursue my love of wine.  In 2007 I moved to Rutherford California to operate one of the highest grossing tasting rooms in the United States.  My department sold $10 million per year in wine "direct to consumer."  After creating labels and wine names I needed for my staff I found himself frustrated with a Winemaker that refused to listen to my requests.  I purposed to create my own brands.  I moved to the town of Sonoma.  For three years I interned under Winemaker Betsy Spann at Spann Cellars. I learned winemaking and had caught the winemaking bug.  My first wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon, went into barrel in 2010.  I began Sonoma Sommelier Wine Magazine began in 2009.  I used facebook successfully to generate traffic.  In 2011 I began hosting private wine tours while I wait for my wines to finish aging.  I have announced two wine brands: Robert O'Maoilriain Wine Cellars and O Riain Family Proprietary Red that will debut in 2012 and 2013  In 2011 I will debut a wine club of Sonoma Valley AVA wines.

RANDOM EXTRAS ABOUT ME~

“I grew up with French Wine as a young child.  New Orleans further encouraged my entanglement and love for Bordeaux but also inspired my interest in Southern French Wines and their great flexibility pairing with food table side.  To this day I do grade California Cabernet against the Varietal correctness of Margaux, Pauillac and St. Julian as well as grading Syrah against Northern Rhone and so on.”

“ My favorite hobby is cooking, I am a wild man in the kitchen and can hold my own on the line with the best of them.  I spend my days off cooking 7 course meals for friends and family in the New Orleans and European traditions.  My closest friends always ask me to cook rather than going out to restaurants.“

“Most folks don’t know about my past creating lists of designer cocktails.  I am quite a drink mixing mad scientist.  I always like to shock visitors when I can with one of my original cocktails or just something I throw together that day.”
